Matthew is an enthusiastic Welsh tenor currently on his second year of the David Seligman Opera School at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Recent engagements include Die Knusperhexe in Hänsel und Gretel and Le Chevalier de la Force in Dialogues of the Carmelites.
Matthew has previously completed his MMus at RWCMD with distinction, and before Royal Welsh Matthew graduated in 2015 with a first class honours degree in Music from Bath Spa University, and began to take the first steps in his professional performance career. Although Matthew's primary repertoire is Operatic he is no stranger to the concert stage, having sung as a soloist throughout South Wales and the South-West of England in works including Tippet's Five Spirituals, Goodall’s Eternal Light, Haydn's Creation, Bach Magnificat, Mendelssohn Hymn of Praise, Chilcott Requiem, and Rossini’s Petite Messe Solenelle .
Matthew also has a love of British song, particularly the works of Benjamin Britten; for his final recital he performed Britten's song cycle Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings in full and went on to perform selections from this with full orchestra in Bath Spa University's 2014 Gala Concert. In 2017, 2018, and 2019 Matthew was fortunate enough to take part in the Dorset Opera Festival chorus, and returned as a member of the professional chorus in their first season post-lockdown in 2021, 2022 and 2023.
